I was wondering how hard it is to replace the gas cap and fuel gauge cap on a Fat Boy with the electronic ones that have LEDs to show the amount of fuel in the tank. Since it involves electricity, I was wondering how hard it is to do. List price on the caps is $189.00, and I hate to pay labor if it's not too difficult to do.
Has anyone done it themselves? If so, could you post the difficulty factor.
If you dig around in forums you will see that NOBODY likes those....they fail all the time and they are not as 'flush' with the tank as you'd think....search around the forums and you'll probably decide against them
i have not heard anything about the ones kuryakn makes but the HD ones apparently suck pretty bad
The other issue with the LED gas guages is that there is some sort of third wire which made install difficult for a lot of people as they couldn't figure out where to put it. Also, many have said the accuracy is questionable. They do look cool though. I always take a gas guage on a motorcycle with a grain of salt as accuracy is never very good.
I have them on my 08 Softail Custom. LOVE THEM!! One of my best mods. They look cool and I have never had problems.
I had them installed by the dealer. They only took them an hour to install, so it wasn't to hard on the wallet.
The only thing is the sealant they put around the them to keep them down and flush sucks. My guage popped up on my this weekend. Only because of the cold though. I store mine in a uninsulated shed so she gets pretty cold. Its an east fix though
Kuryakyn informer is easy to install. Heard a lot of negatives on the HD model so I steered clear of it. No problems with the operation of the Kury.

I put the HD set on my deluxe about a month ago...had no problems installing...about 30 minutes... fits fine as well....which means they do fit flush....not sure why some say they don't fit flush??? hopefully they hold up as I read the posts too, but right now, I like it.
