I have an 09 Heritage with Screamin' Eagle pipes and S&S breather. They have a mesh wire and fiberglass type of material around the baffle. What is the material for and can it be removed? Will affect the back pressure and will it make it louder?
I threw away the fiberglass and screen wire. Doubled the amount of holes in the baffle AFTER the diverter in the middle of the baffle pipe. It allowed my FXSTC 96B engine to open up and it runs a lot better than it did with the stock pipes.
You can't run without the baffles because of not enough backpressure but a little modification doesn't hurt them, it actually helped my bike. I truly believe it also lowered the amount of vibration at higher RPMs that I had. Anytime I got up around 3500 rpm the engine had a real agrivating vibration.
