I had mine open since last aug. had no issues, did get caught in the rain just once, had no issue at all with it. Not sure I would ride for a long time in steady rain.

cool thanks for the tons of food for thought

I am not sure yet whether I want to or not....I wonder if there is anthing that is half open...as in build like and open one but that has a lip that covers the front and half the top and bottom for the rain...on the other side whats the point lol

Well you can run a open air cleaner, with the stock cover, which would be basically half covered. not sure what you want to do. You can always make one, I made just a flat cover before I bought one for my Arlen Ness Big Sucker, but out of alumnium and painted it black. Could have bent it to cover the filter halfway or fully.

I run the forcewinder w/ sock and never had any problems. easy to put on/off carry it in your pocket if you want to run without it

I had one on my sportster and it was open on the bottom. it worked well because it would cause the wind to go around the air filter making a vortex. You could cut the bottom of the football and get the same effect.

I have a Zipper on my Springer with a Dewey's chrome cover and I have not had a problem at all. I have been caught in the rain on more than one occasion.
