question concerning open air cleaners...killer look and free-er air flow...but what is the down side?
Do you need a diff airfilter? what happens when you get caught in a torential rain? Can the filter get to wet? does is make any diff? do you have to switch the filters more often?
thanks...been really toying with the idea, on one side cause it looks cool on the other cause it would be a cool project for the winter months still left.
i haven't found i need to switch the filter more often on mine, one of the things that is necasary when lookin for one is making sure you can get replacments.
the biggest down side is the rain, my bike, in a downpoor, will not run period, it cuts out and stalls, i just got a rain sock for it but i have yet to test it. time will tell

Thanks for being honest. So many put form over function & here in the UK it's for show bikes & bar-hoppers only.

I've just fitted a Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather to my Softail, previously had a Forcewinder. As long as the rain sock is on you'll have no worries (even in wet England!!)
from some other members concerning like post:
"I don't think you need one. I've been running an open K&\\;N filter for 2 years, and have ridden in lots of rain, including hours-long downpours without a hiccup."
"+1...and no problems here, either.."
So not sure, can always throw the old football cover back on it when it rains i guess.
If it's got a raincoat on, it's not exactly an open filter, is it? Or am I missing something here?
We all dig the look of a cool exposed filter, but I'm damned if I'll stuff Roland's pocket for summat that needs it's socks on to work properly! Someone gave this link http://www.outerwearsracing.com/prod...asp?prod=20831 as being an answer for the RS filter.
Maybe it'd be easier to trim up an old Goretex liner to fit? Gotta have some old bike kit somewhere, surely?
