I just installed arlen ness dampers (-2.5") a couple weeks ago on my 08 train. You must remove forks to install any kind of lowering kit on a softail, or at least lower them down some to remove the spring plug to get at the spring

Lowered mine about 2.5" in the rear and 2.5" in the front running heavy oil. Took it out for a short ride the other day and the ride is great. You can get these dampers for about $50. Nice cheap way to lower the front...

I agree on taking the trees apart. Seems like more work.

Your way would work but your probably gonna need another set of hands. Also if you want to get the lowers PC'd, now would be the time since it wont be all that much more work to yank those while you do the lowering kit.

Thumbs up

If your going to lower the fork tubes you will have to remove the top caps before you can loosen the pinch bolts to slide the tubes down. Your not doin anything with the dampers with the Drop-In Progressive Kit. Just installing the springs, compensator springs, PVC tubes and washers. It's just not as hard as everyone is making it out to be. IMHO.

I agree, I think it will be pretty easy to do. I ordered the progressive kit today and should have it in a few days. We shall see I guess. I just don't understand why the progressive site, and Dennis Kirk, both say that the drop in kits are available for us Train owners, when they won't be true "drop ins" like they are claiming. I guess they are still drop ins though, either way that it has to be done.

Thanks for the info. I do plan on either painting or powder coating the lowers, but I haven't made up mind yet if I want gloss black or flat black, or if I will paint or pc them.

So I have a question then. Should I have went with the Progressive cruise control lowering kit instead of the drop in kit? I could of saved myself about $20 dollars with the cruise control kit. Since the drop in kit isn't really a drop in kit, I think they would both install the same way. Just throwing it out there.........

I have a set of springs that arrived already from Ebay,
I also have new Black out lowers and baught Rubber Gaiters to add the 'bobber' look.

So, when I am done, I will have a full assembly of 2"+ tubes/lowers for sale .

And will post pictures too, my back is down 1.5" already.

The reason for lowering is that I am installing also a black out Z 12" apes in the front, they look so sweet, but won't fit will with the 2"+ fork tubes IMHO.

Pictures will be posted once the job is done.

UPS is scheduled to come today. My spring kit shows "Out for Delivery." If they do their part, hopefully I'll be able to spend some quality time out in the garage this afternoon.
