Default Progressive Front Drop-in Lowering Kit?

I was on the Progressive web site looking at their 10-2003 drop-in lowering kit for the front of my 08 Fattie. They claim it can be done in 30 minutes without taking the forks apart. I ordered one from Dennis Kirk as I already have the Progressive 422 for the rear of my bike.

Has anybody put one of these in and what was the result? Mine is supposed to come Wednesday so I may have a report then. Cost was $122 shippped, btw, though I didn't do any price shopping to speak of.

As a side note, anybody have a source for a lowered jiffy stand? I think I'm gonna need one when the front goes down some....

30 Minutes?

Shee-yat. Mine took about 2 hours on my Night Train and the derned forks had to come apart. It isnt "Drop-In" according to my indy who did the job for me. I even called the harley dealer to make sure he wasnt feeding me a line....they quoted me 3 hours!

On a positive note though my bike rides better than it ever has and handles way better....I only dropped mine 1" as the rear is so low I was concerned with losing any remaing cornering clearance and scraping the thing all over town. It turned out OK but I think I'm gonna get another .5" dropped and be at 1.5" in the front and 2.5" in the rear.

As it stands 2.5" rear and 1" front and my stand works fine.

Well, I'm gonna read the destructions when they come and go from there....They do offer 2 different lowering kits for the front...The one I ordered is supposed to be the "drop-in".

In the next day or 2 while I'm waiting for them to come the service manual will get looked at too.

Well, that's nice to know. I was looking at those drop in kits on Dennis Kirk as well, and I thought I had heard somewhere that the ones on the Train had to be taken apart. Oh well, either way, I will be doing this soon.

Maybe they are but my indy installed them along with replacing the fork seals so everything was already apart.

It is probably just me, but look closely at the instructions. One of the stock springs (the smallest one I think) remains. We didn't put it back in the first time and it got pretty ugly.

What is the benefit to dropping the front end?

Mine will be mainly for looks I guess. I dropped the rear about 1.5" to 2", and so now the front sits up higher. I would also think that it would handle better too though. I would think that most people who lower the front, have lowered the rear first, so they are trying to level the bike back out. Just my two cents though

on softails you do have to take the tubes out of the triple trees to install the dropins. The best way is to remove the fender, wheel, brake caliper, slide the tube down to where the upper clamp was on the tube and tighten there take the cap off remove the spring ,install the new one and repeat on the other side and reassemble the rest. Should take an hour to two to complete. No you dont have to change the oil to do this. I ordered mine last week and I too will be doing it shortly. I shopped and the best I could find was $113.00 shipped

Thats why to level out the bike is the thing. You shouldn't just lower the front that I would think cause handling problems

Sounds like it won't be too bad though. Yeah, I found some from Dennis Kirk that I am going to order either tonight or tomorrow. Where did you find yours and what kind is it? Progressive I would assume? The ones from Dennis Kirk are about the same price I believe. They have some from LA Choppers I think that are a little bit cheaper, but I would rather go with Progressive.
