riser bushings
I put the HD poly bushings in my Heritage and it made a HUGE difference. I have 18" apes and they wobbled back and forth with all the leverage on the stock bushings.
With the poly's installed, they are solid as a rock. It was a big improvement!

A month ago, I noticed after a scarey incident on a country road avoiding a car, afterwards when I had pulled over I felt there was too much movement on my mini-ape bars. It had almost a full 3/4" of travel on them!
Six months after I bought my ride - I had replaced the stock bars with the same bars that came on the Softail Custom because of the way they felt for me. I tried quite a few bars, but those worked out best for me.
However - I think with all the riding I do, that I might have worn down the rubber bushings faster than normal, so I needed something more *durable* than the stock rubber bushings that came with the risers.
After reading quite a few threads on riser bushings and how they wore down quickly (I have 25k miles so far) or were just plain junk, I decided to pick up the Arlen Ness polyurethane riser bushings at my local Arlen Ness shop in Dublin, CA.
I read up on how to replace the riser bushings here on HD Forums, and yeah - it was pretty fast AND easy!
Socket wrench, loosened the bolts underneath a bit, then took off handlebars, laid on blanket covered tank, removed risers, took out bolts and put in new bushings and reversed process to complete install.
About 3/4 of an hour (took time to drink non-alchoholic beer) and then took for road test (Cause ya know you don't drink and ride
).
Well - hell yeah - BIG difference!
Don't know why I waited so long to replace them!

Poly bushings are the way to go. Bought dragfast bushings only, not a kit, through hd dealer for under $10.00. Changed when i changed risers/bars. <<beware...my stock riser bolts bottomed out in the new risers thus not allowing the risers to compress. Results were...slight bar movement. Blamed the poly bushings until i figured it out. Replaced bolts and cured the problem. My bars have not moved since. >>
