i bought my mike a new 09 fatboy. took it to bike week she rode it once and decieid she didnt like it . now i need to see how much of a beating i will take to trade it for a heratage softail
I'm not going to guess how bad of a beating you'll get on it. In the end, I hope it all works out smoothly for you.
What doesn't she like about it? Is it the looks? I've never ridden a Heritage but I would have guessed it has a similar ride. If it's looks, maybe a less expensive route is to start looking at cosmetic updates.
What?? They are almost the same bike? Put bags and a shield on it... maybe passing lights. For the beating you may take you could do a stage 1 with pipes and other goodies, like bars, seat... and make it a reeeeally nice bike - custom to her specs. imo - a much nicer bike than a stock Heritage.
The question that comes to my mind is why you would spend that kind of dough on a bike that she wasn't sure about? Sounds kind of hasty to me. Unless you're loaded buying bikes isn't like buying shoes, and even those you have to try on and walk in before you pay for them.
Guess I got lucky. Wife's first bike was a Deluxe and she loves it. Actually I tried to get her to take my Heritage off my hands so I could get an RK but she liked the feel of the Deluxe better.
In retrospect I could've lowered the Heritage an inch, put different bars on it, and it would've "felt" the same as the Deluxe.
I would like to trade my 08 Heritage in on a tourer but I'm not willing to take the $7k hit on it. So there's no way in hell I would consider swapping a softail for a softail.
If it's a fit issue there are tons of things you can do to that Fatboy. New seat and handlebars make a huge difference. The Fatboy is a great bike. Big fat tires and solid rims. Just my opinion but I think it's dumb to trade it for a Heritage. Unless money is no object.

Definitely need to let us know what exactly she doesn't like about the Fatboy that you think she would about a Heritage. You can make a Fatboy into a Heritage for less than you'd lose on the trade, and you will take a serious beating in such a quick trade. We're talking first-night-in-prison serious. If it's something more fundamental - changing from one Softail to another won't help.
