Have a 2008 Heritage with only 1,400 miles. Twice this past weekend the engine just quits while riding. One at 30 MPH and the other at 40 MPH. I pulled over each time and restarted. I know I can take it to the shop but any ideas what might cause this?
i had the same problem with my 08 deluxe, quit on me a few times had to be trailerd twice, it ended up being my power comander that was installed by the dealer and was put on the lower fender xtension with [double sided tape] per instructions for the pc. in my opinion the pc is a terrible set up for the deluxe. had the sert installed and have not had another problem since, and the bike seems to run better with the sert, i guess if you want to save a buck like an addon to the ecm you get what you pay for. i learned a lesson because pc refused to replace or take back the pc and the stealer didn't what it either if anybody is interested in it let me know i will let it go cheap
same thing happened to my 07 deluxe. doin about 70 it just died.took it to the dealer and they found nothing. bike has no add-on devices such as a power commander. that was about a year and 4000 miles ago,it hasnt done it since. I saw several other threads on here about the same thing but never saw anyone with a answer for what caused it.
Common cause for this is a bad battery ground cable or a loose battery ground cable. Had the same exact thing happen to me in the past and tightening the cable did the trick.
Simple fix: Check and tighten the battery ground cable where it connects to the frame.

Same thing happened to me. It's an easy check to do.
had that happen to my 04 carbed std a couple of times by the time I got to the side and stopped checked a couple things is started and ran fine theis was all at least 30 thou. miles ago. also have been riding with friends that have had the sme thing happen and never found and answer good luck
Hey Gang. It has been awhile and since my original question it happened 2 more times. I finnaly broke down and took it to the dealership. They found that the compensator assembly behind the clutch housing was seized. They replaced the assembly however could not guarantee it would solve the problem. Where the spacer meets the sprocket was tight and they had to pry it off. Everything in the assembly should be loose and turn freely is what I was told. I hope they are correct as I am not a techy. The computer had zero readings that would indicate an electrical or fuel problem. Just want to let everyone know in case you experience the same thing. Has anyone heard or understand this? You all are great!
