I was walking past my 08 Fat Boy and noticed the shiny head of a small nail between the center of the contact surface and outer edge of the tread on the rear tire. I yanked it out and put in a plug. I called my 2 local dealer's and all they do is replace the tire. I have 4200 miles with plenty of tread left. What would you do?
We've all done things we weren't s'posed to. But, if the tire fails on your Delta 88 you say dammit. If it fails on your Fatty, you wake up at a trauma center...
Here's a link to a site that says tough break, now go get yourself a new shoe.
Its not worth the risk. There is post on the forum where a couple had major tire failure and are in serious condition. I would never tempt fate like that. We take enough risk by simply riding.
I've heard of plugs lasting. If $ is not a big deal then spring.
If you've got a good plug lsystem eave it in for a while and see how it does.
WTF, you can always plug it again if you lose that one, no?
Well there are the plug and ride guys, and the replace guys,Iam a replace guy,I had a nail at my first 300 mi and had 5 since them,I had the tire replacment when I bought the bike, and I used every bit of it...so for me I replace,I like being safe..
Well, with the few answers so far, I do get the picture. This shall be a temporary repair. So,,,do I go with the same stock Dunlop tire, or is there something else I should consider? Thanks!
