I am removing my fuel tank on a fuel injected '04 Fat boy in order to perform some maintenance.
My question is how long do I have to let the bike idle in order to depressure the fuel system. (once I've disconnected the fuel pump electrical plug under the tank)
The service manual says to let it idle until the bike stalls. It doesn't say how long the bike will run until it runs out of fuel. I ran it for a good 15 minutes and eventually shut it off thinking that I missed something.
If I did I'm hoping someone smarter than I can point it out.
Yeah, I was just following the service manual instructions to "depressure the fuel system". Not to run it dry. I ended up doing what tk353 did and spilled a little but pretty much captured all my fuel in a jerry can.
