stick a 2x4 under the kickstand to level it out some and you will be fine

+1 on the 2X4 and should use a new gasket. All Harley covers use the paper gasket except the OEM they use an O-Ring

my local harley shop told me to just to clean it off and reuse it.

I just used Saran wrap in place of a gasket and trimmed it around the derby once it was on.

I have reused the rubber gasket with the stock cover at least once, maybe twice now. I have the other one but have not found a need to use it yet.

Saran wrap sounds like an even better idea.

for $3 i would get a new gasket. in fact i get a kit for $4 that is Harley and has the 3 orings for oil change and the gasket. yea might work but do you want to chance it for $3

I want to change mine also, 2x4 is a good idea. Do I need to torqe the bolts back down? and use locktite?

^^^ Hell no, don't put loctite on them, they aren't going anywhere. Just snug 'em up.
