Yes, you have to "marry" the TSSM to the ECM. Installed mine about a month ago and had to turn on, off, on, off, on the ignition multiple times, wait 15 minutes and hit the turn signal switches. Had to repeat this about 3 or 4 times, took damn near an hour to complete. I did not have to have the shop put it on the computer.
All of this had to be done before setting up your codes. Don't know if you can still use this method now, but the whole procedure is in the shop manual. If you can get your hands on one, may save a trip to the stealer.

Just a useless opinion but I've never used mine.

Too damned complicated. One time I must have leaned against the fob and activated the system. Took me about a half an hour to figure out how to turn it off so I could hit the road.

Those bike jackers don't give crap about security systems anyway. A crew will just hoist the bike onto a truck or van in a couple of seconds. File a claim and get a new bike.

I know when I bought the security module for my 04 road king, the dealership forgot to tell me they had to "mate" it with the ECM, so I had the same problem(won't run), when they told me it wasn't defective, they just needed to program it, I told them they could "mate" it for free (they couldn't be bothered telling me before I bought it OR pick it up) ?
they did !!!
