I want to take the heel shifter off. I've seen spacers before but can't find them now. Does anyone know where to grab one?
Also, what tools do you carry with you on your bike? I don't need the special kits. I think I have most everything in the garage. I just dont' want to carry what I don't need and not have what I do need when I need it...............
To remove the heel shifter undo the allen bolt holding it on and pull off. You will then need a shifter spline cap or something like that. Check out the Cruz tools kits on ebay.
The heel shifter eliminators come in two flavors. One is a chrome cap that goes on the end of the shaft, and the other is a spacer that takes up the space when you remove the heel shifter and slide the toe shifter out to the end of said shaft. Both serve the same purpose; throwing a little chrome in a bland spot, I kinda like the spacer method bestest...
ok, the local stealership had the chrome spacer. Geez, HD definatley stands for (high dollar) :-).
Anyway, the darn pinch bolts, really more like a hex head cap screw, must have been installed with loctite or something. I haven't tried a small pipe cheater but how much pressure should it take to breaker that loose, assuming it was installed with loctite?
I don't want to strip the head. I also assume I need to use some loctite when I re-secure the toe shifter.

It likely has some loctite on the threads. You could put some thread ease on it before breaking the bolt loose; might help. For what its worth, both the front and rear shifter levers are the same thing so if you screw one up, use the other.
