Just wondering what pipes you guys have on your Deluxes and why. I just bought an 06 with scream'n eagle, but not sure if I like them. They're not extremely loud which is kinda nice, but it's the overall sound I'm not sure about. My previous standard had cycle shack slip-ons that I think sounded better. Also, a couple quick questions: 1) This bike runs great as did the last. My standard was carburated and seemed to be more responsive from 50 mph up. Not that my Deluxe isn't smooth, it is. Is there a difference because of size, tires, etc.? Both 1450cc. 2) I would really like to find pipes that bring out that classic V-twin sound. Anyone have the magical answer? Thanks guys

I've got an '06 Deluxe with Vance and Hines Long Shots, no baffles. They were on there when I bought the bike and the sound was a big factor in my purchase. I've been pretty happy with them and have gotten a lot of compliments. Hope this helps.

In my area, Rush slip-ons seem to be very popular on Deluxes. Especially, since they have several different baffles available.

I bought a '05 Deluxe late last year. The stock slip-ons were cored by the dealer for the original owner. Sound was okay, but I think that the lack of back pressure affected low end torque, some. That could be just me. I've had a couple of other Harley 88's in the past, and this 88B just seemed to be a dog in terms of mid-range power. So, after about 500 miles, I did the Stage II build. I went with SE slip-ons with the 95 build. I think that the 95 build adds a little sound to the SE slip-ons. I've put around 1,500 miles (one month of riding last fall) on it since the build and I think that the SE slip-ons are geting a little louder as they get broken in. Again, this could be me.

Hope this information helps.

My softail has Samson true duals with fishtails. IO love the sound but it is an acquired taste.
The wife's sporty had s/c slip on' when we bought it and I replaced them with v and h not to long ago. The v and h sound way better. and provide better performance.

I've got 2" Rush Slip-ons on my 06' Deluxe and they sound great for the $$$. I love the V&H Big Radius Pipes on Deluxes too. Hooker makes the Troublemakers pipes that look the same and sound great for a little less. Someone posted that they are getting out of the motorcycle exhaust business and if you go to their website, there are some deep discounts to be had on some of their pipes.

It depends on what you want to spend. If it is just the sound you want to change you can on some SE slipons buy replacement aftermarket baffles. To change overall performance you are looking at changing air and pipes and adding some form of fuel management...which brings you back to Dough. Personally I like the shotgun exhaust on the Deluxe. I just think Harley got it right. Also the Kerker 2:1 looks very retro and that design should improve performance, but that again comes with a price. There is a link in the tech area of sound clips....that is kinda fun but may not help...LOL. Good luck.

Any V&H pipes will give you the sound you're after. I've got the straighshot so on my Sporty and the Double Long Barrels on my Deluxe. IMO, the SO's are louder, but it could be that since they DB's go all the way to the back of the bike, I just don't hear them as much when I'm on the bike. The DB's are the Q(uiet) series so they're equal to the quiet baffles I put in the SO's. I love both set of pipes. Can't go wrong with V&H.
