Seriously why??? Like said before if you really want an EVO bike then start a project.
I just found a 200mm rear tire rigid frame that has never been used on craigslist for $300 if I was working at the moment I'd own it and build a CHEAP custom.

okay guys, i understand you're questioning WHY?

Well, swapping to an EVO came across my mind because I really miss that low idle on my bike. I agree with all of you that the TC engine is great, but speaking for my own needs, I don't need that much ci and i'd rather prefer a 80ci engine with a carb that can run on a low idle than the current 96ci with efi and the neccesary higher idle.

I think the low idle was an important element (amongst with other more technical elements) for creating the typical patato patato sound, which has always been a part of the whole bike. IMO.
Looking back for 25 years, I have always associated a Harley Davidson with that sound.
But now, it's gone with the TC96ci, and so i have the idea there's a part of Harley missing on my bike... and that's why this question came up in my mind.

...but I guess i'd better leave it for what it is, 'cause it might be a too big rebuild, and probably I'd better get slowly used to the Jap-bike-alike Harley sound.

Anyway, thanks for your replies everybody

Have you thought of changing cams? maybe to SE 204's. I heard a TC96 the other day with SE 204's and it had a very low idle due to the lope and it sounded like an old shovel head. It definitely had that infamous potato, potato, potato sound to it.

You might want to try the cam upgrade. I can tell you from my experience it does help. I had the Stage 2 big bore kit done on my 08 Rocker C. The kit came with the bigger SE 257 cams and the bike has a really nice lope at idle now. It still idles high cold but once warm it settles down and sounds great. Its has just enough lope to sound good. Hope this helps.

Howolf, if you do decide to do the cams, make sure you get some sound clips and all the parts it needs, im thinking of doing it too. Post the Results Bro!

Love that sound. That is what made me fall in love with my bike. Decided a 92 heritage softail with an EVO over a newer injected 04 fatboy. Try the cam!

Question Evo or

Could a person carb a 96 that was EFI ? Not a mechanic here, just wondering if one could convert and then have the potato sound? ?
