Question

I got my PCV 5 installed today. The only issue with installation was removing the bolts that hold my ECM in the tray. HD loctited the bolts in so I had to remove the plastic around the brass inserts and hold them with a vice. What a pain that was. After installing my PC 5, I took my 06 Deluxe for a spin and to my displeasure I still had popping on deceleration, but not as bad. There is a great thread "lean or to rich" that put me at ease but I will have to call fuel moto and ask them if they can help me out. My bike seems to run good but I cant really tell a major difference.

I am no expert on tuning so I read many of the threads in the technical forum. I had concerns about my bike's performance (running lean and hot w/ bad mpg) and was considering a dyno tune. So I when I looked at that cost vs. the PC-V and auto-tune, I contacted Jamie and bought/installed the retro fit PC-V with the auto-tune on my 08 Fatboy. (Jamie at Fuel Moto has been excellent).

I spoke to Jamie about "tweeking" the PC-V maps and the real need for that, but he said the auto-tune should do what I want. Which is a well tuned bike. So far that's the case. So all that to say, the auto-tune might be something to think about -which would be cheaper than the dyno's if you like to change things up a bit. (I'm hoping to go with duals in the future). Good luck and ride safe.

i think fuel motos pcv is $310 shipped and the auto tune retails for $349. does anyone know if the auto tune will give you the optimum tune everytime? Im going to be doing a 103 soon and i want the best tune possible but who knows if the tuners around here are good so maybe the autotune would be best?

TK535 is right - Thundermax does appeal to be a powerful one. It has wideband to log and dial in the AFR and it also provide a tool to alter timing and other parameters. It has an auto tune so it may set the base map with auto tune (by means of logging and you can custome tune it in your own). I like it already!

* In my humble opinion, a piggy back system is not a consistent performer. It may work OK one day but it will not. Not only that it does not care about timing and it may cause an issue. This is one of the reason why you could have a "Pop" "PoP" "PoP" in decel.... ** Sudden Timing Advance while INJ cycle has not returned to "Closed Loop" in a short time....

Default PCV - Blueing and Decel Pop

Roto:

Did you check to see if you have exhaust leak at the clamps? Each pipe on your long rebels has a clamp that attaches the head pipe to the muffler. Mine and others had leaks. That could be the cause of both your blueing and the decel popping. Good luck.

I checked my clamps they are both tight and I cant feel a leak by hand. I rode my bike to work and it seems to run great, i was under the impression the popping on decel would disappear.

Decell popping is due to several reasons but the main factors are reversion or an exhaust leak. This can usually be tuned out pretty easily with most tuning devices. In your case with the PC-V I would recommend starting by adding 10% from 1750-5000 RPM's in the 0% column of the fuel table. This will richen the mixture at closed throttle and decrease exhaust gas temps. As a side note the Auto Tune module for PC-V as well as the Thundermax both work very, very well for real time AFR adjustments, however there is not a product on the market that can adjust the decell area or for poppings as these areas have far different requirements and much different conditions in the exhaust system.
