Correct Riding Position
This may sound like a bit of a dumb question - you see Im coming off of a couple of Buells. Forward riding position, with seats tilted slightly forward. Its what I know for the last 5 years. I also have short arms. Im used to leaning forward - and touring that way.
I bought a Heritage Softail. My first Softail. So I didn't like the high reach to the mini ape bars. Loosened the clamp and I lowered/tilted/rotated them 3 inches roughly....and I like it more.
I have a slight bend in my elbows, but still reach out to the bars. Is that ergonomically correct for a cruiser? I have a slight hunch in my back as well. Its like Im sitting "in" this bikes seat, not "on" it....
Anyway, question is, for long distance comfort, should I reach out to the bars, with my back and elbows slightly bent? Or should I be completely upright with the bars coming back to me? (in which case I need more pullback.)
Im new to the cruiser scene - and plan on doing some long rides this summer. If I need different bars, I want to get them before the long hauls....
Thanks!
All in all a Heritage is not going to feel like a sport bike ever. It might just be that you need to get used to the feel of the new bike.
