I am looking to do either V&H staeggared duels or the Python staggared duels. Is it necassary to do the stage 1 if you change the pipes or can you do it at a later date?
I put the V&H Longshots on my bike and ran it that way for a few months.
Then it was time for my 10K Service. So, I decided what the heck, and
went for the Stage One Kit and had my bike DYNOED w/o the baffles.
I have never been happier. My bike performs flawlessly, and my last
tank of gas, I got 51.4 MPG... Not too shabby.

I am new to HD and not sure what direction to go.
Thanks.....
That really depends on who you talk to around here... Seems the general thought is that if you mess with the pipes you should upgrade the other stuff at the same time. If you have a carb you should jet it and if you have EFI you should look into the SERT or the PCIII.
I think the main concern is that the Harley seems to run a bit lean stock... adding new pipes can "worsen" that condition.
I got my pipes, computer, air kit, and dyno all done at once. I was VERY happy with the outcome. It cost more than I wanted to spend but given the amount of money already invested in just buying a harley, I looked at is as insurance.
I have an '05 Deluxe. First, I installed the Stage 1 kit and had the dealer download a new map and dyno the bike (at about 1000 mi.). Later I had staggered Pythons installed by the dealer. After 3-400 miles, I decided I didn't like the Pythons and worked a deal with the HD dealer to swap the Pythons for "Rush" Boloney cut slip on's with my original pipes. They main problem with the Pythons was that the pipes didn't have heat shields and I kept burning my right leg and scorched (ruined) a couple of pair of jeans. For anyone interested, you can preview Rush slip-ons (with audio) at www.epiflex.com. I experienced a significant improvement in performance after stage 1, download/dyno and the new mufflers.
