What is the benefit from a stage 1 kit? Also the dealer told me I could not do anything to my bike until I get at least 500 miles on my bike is this true? I want to get the rinehart pipe or thunder header slip-on
I had a stage 1 and 95 c.i. big bore kit installed on my '04 RKC before I took delivery of the bike (zero miles). My guess is your dealer's service dept. is very busy. Maybe there is a break-in preference your dealer has. He also should have the reason for the wait.
I had my Stage I, except for the pipes, which I did myself, done before I picked the bike up. The benefits you will see if you do the Stage I and pipes will be about 5 to 7 HP.
The pipes are nice and you can feel more power with the stage one. My dealer said they could do it at anytime. One of the kids behind the counter had sugested waiting to get used to the bike as stock and then doing the stage 1 after a few thousand miles so I could appreciate the power more. I thought he was nuts.
My only suggestion is to wait a little while. Listen closely to what other people on here have to say about various pipes and problems. Also, it gives you time to see more of what is on the road and what you do or don't like.
I bought the wrong pipes b/c I didn't take my time. I did V+H slip on classics and wish I had done more research. Take you time and only buy one set of pipes.
I agree with those suggesting a bit of a wait until you get used to stock. Makes you appreciate the dollars spent a little more. I had mine done right after 1000 mile (should have waited until the next oil change after doing the 1000 mile, but I'm "stoopid" sometimes and had to break-in all over again - another thread).
Now, does anybody need a couple of good stock jugs, pistons, rings, cams and pipes? Just barely 1000 miles on 'em...
