I have the analog gauge on my 07 heritage. Last summer during a road trip, temps in the 90's, the gauge readings topped out at 270. My buddy's 01 was showing 250 on the same ride. My first gauge lasted two years and then the rubber on the plug got hard, maybe from the heat, and it wouldn't seal, so I replaced it. I'm hoping this one lasts longer.
wow 270 sounds a little high. are you using a fuel tuner? I just got my analog guage today and if it ever quits raining im gonna see what she tells me.
Don't buy one of those temp dipsticks. Bought one for my Night Train and oil seeped out around the top and all down the side of my bike. I was pissed. Put the original one back in and never had a problem. It a Made in Taiwan piece of CRAP!! Friend of mine bought one for his Dyna and it came apart when he tried to pull it out. We had to fish the parts out of his bike. Just warning you.

I would take it back and get your money back. I had the one with the needle readout. I didn't buy it for a while because it said Made in Taiwan right there under the "Genuine Harley" but then went ahead and got it. Big mistake. My friend had the lcd one like yours. When it came apart it had little ball bearings inside and it took us about an hour to fish them out of his bike. We also didn't know how many we where looking for. We got them all but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
Do a search for engine temp. I started a thread some time ago and got a pretty good response. The 96" o7' and up engines tend to run hotter. Check out the thread. Use Synthetic..Mobil 1 is a very good oil but lsome have their own taste.

Sounds like you might have had too much oil. Never had a problem with mine except when I slightly overfilled the oil bag.
