Default suspension question

I've been looking to purchase a suspension kit to lower my bike. Harley and other websites have two bolts to lower the softail. Has anyone used this? does it affect ride/performance of the bike?
or should I go with the progressive suspension kit? any feed back greatly appreciated.

If you want the best ride with adjustibility too you should get an air ride, but a word of caution, they are not cheap.

A friend had the progressives and hated the way it handled. No one that I know has done the lowering bolts but I have read greatly varying result with them. I suppose a lot of it has to do with what the road conditions are like where you live and ride, if you ride 1 up or 2 up, and on and on.

I will not mention the brand or air ride I have as trouble ensued regarding this issue in the past, but ask around and you might find out. I find it well worth the extra money and am yet to have any sort of issue with it aside from people staring in awe.

I used the 1" lowering kit on the rear of my Heritage. Still rides great all though I do seem to scrape a little sooner than before but I did it for the looks. Actually I wish I would have went a little lower like 1 1/2". I purchased the HD lowering bolt kit for the struts rather than the actual new struts that were around $300 I think.

I'm going with these next winter:

I've heard that the replacement shock bolt style kits roughen the ride a fair bit, but thats the cheapest way to go. I actually bought one of these kits but never got around to installing it.

My FatBoy is lowered with shock extensions and I think the ride is fine. No problems since 04', cost was right at $200.00.

I lowered mine and on good roads the ride and handling is great, but the washboard roads that seem to pop up here in the northeast, not too nice. I love the look and I don't ride two up very much. I will go with air ride as it is the best as far as ride goes. Mine is down 2" ft and rear and I used shocks and springs to lower it. If you ride two up most of the time I would not recomend it
