Primary leak.
I have a 2007 heritage classic with just under 9000 miles on her, and she is leaking. At first i thought it was from the primary drain plug so i changed the drain plug o-ring and reistalled the plug and torqued it to specs from the service manual. It still leaked so i decieded to let the dealership take a look, they told me that the oring was cracked due to over torqueing it(bullsh*t). so they said they replaced the o-ring and reinstalled the plug, and that the bike was all set and charged me $15. So i pick the bike up and ride home which is 2 miles away and the bike is still dripping. So on my next day off i take the bike back and tell them that its still leaking. They proceed to tell me that i must have hit a curb or something because there is a little gash, or gouge in the bottom of the outer primary which is basicly a deep scratch. They then tell me that because i hit something that it most likely wouldnt be overed by my warrenty and they have no way of knowing what the problem is until they take the outer and inner primary apart to look at it. Now i know that the leak isnt comming from anywhere near the drain plug, it seems to be comming from the seal in back of the inner primary where the shaft comes thru. Anyone ever have this seal go bad? and if so was it covered by the warranty? I am just kinda pissed that the dealer implied that i hit a curb or something. I just am not sure what my next course of action should be.. In these tough economic times i can not afford to be stuck with a 3 or 4 hundred dollar bill from the dealership if they say that this isnt covered by my warrany. I do have the extended warranty for reasons just like this.
Just got my 07 ultra back yesterday.Had to have inner primary seal replaced as it was leaking. I also have extended warranty. It was covered no question asked. Would have cost just over threee hundred parts & labor.
