Default 200 MM Tire?

So I've heard you can get a belt drive to work with a stock swing arm and a 200MM tire on say a 2002 Night Train, who's done this and what is the key to it? I understand the 18X5.5 rim but what else? the 2007+ Fenders work or no?

You can go to a 07+ fender or any other as long as it is 8.5" or 9" wide. Alos will have to cut strut horns. Haven't sone yet, but definitely will. You can check out www.dmcustoms.net and they have the full kits.

I am planning to drop a 200mm in the rear on my 2003 FXST. A buddy of mine who has done it for other friends said all that is required is: 9" rear fender, 18 x 5.5 wheel, pulley for 2006-09 softtails (70T 7/8 for 11/16 belt), PM rear brake caliper (for custom application), custom made spacers, and custom fender struts. Yup the OEM strut horns will have to be removed. I going to do this mod this August or September, and will let post the results.

I know I'am old but that seems a lot of work and money for a 1/2 " wider tire..

Not trying to be a naysayer but isnt the tranny offest that the 06+ bikes require to make that 200 fit going to be a bigger issue than just swapping the pulley?

Aftermarket kits have to use a chain drive just to make a 180 line up right on the 00-05 bikes so how in the heck is a 200 gonna fit, space properly and still run a belt?

If your Buddy can fit a 200MM tire wheel combo on an 00-06 and still use a standard Harley belt drive just by using a few spacers his trick has gots to be the PM rear caliper and some crafty machining of said piece.

I like the narrow fendered kinda old school vintage look personally...I put a 160 on mine and it fills it out and looks great.

I would like to see a few photos of your buddies work on making that 200 fit though!

Thanks..Its getting a lil' better as I have a few key pieces Powdercoated black that I picked up this afternoon without going overboard with whole "Murdered" bike look of whatveer the heck that means??

Soon it will take on a new yet older "Vintagee" look.

Thanks for the comps.

Chaz,

I hear what you're saying I am wondering how does DM Customs do it? I am looking at their latest kit for softtails and they say you can drop a 200mm in the rear and still reuse the OEM pulley and caliper. I am thinking it has to do with the hub then the pulley and using spacers in the right places to make everything align properly.

You know what, I am slowly thinking about buying the kit from DM Customs.

Yer' post made my day. As I read through it you almost had me sold too!!

But I'm going down a Vintage road and were I to have a custom bike built it wouldnt have more than a 160 or 180 at the very most on it.

Old school is still Kool!! Spend that moolah on the motor or yer' old lady!!
