Default Heritage Softail Classic Windshield Question

This coming Saturday I'm going to do something I have been wanting to do for a very long time now. I am going to test ride a Softail Classic, but I've never riden a bike with a windshield before. You guys with experience, what do you think. Do you favor looking over the windshield, even with the top, or do you look through the plastic? Don't know what to look for or test for. Or is this just no big deal?
Thanks, BA

I like the stock Heritage windshield, but may get another shorter one just to mix it up. Since it's quick detachable, you can remove it or swap it anytime.

Since I cut mine down, I like it a lot more.
Its below my line of sight by a good amount. Roughly 3" below stock.

Forgetting the buffeting issues I had, I also felt a bit naseous. Like motion sickness. I think it was from the distortion of the road through the shield.

It's low enough now that I don't have that problem anymore.

Are you talking about a Heritage Classic? NICE bike, if you are.. They're basically a fatboy with all the trimmings.. studded seat and bags, detach windsheild, sissybar standard, big FL fender.. Fender light bar instead of dealing with the strut mounted bullets.. front passing lamps and signal lightbar instead of dealing with bullets on the handlebars.

Can ya tell I wish I had rather gone with a heritage? hehe Or maybe a roadking. I must be getting old.

I've got a detach windsheild for the my fatboy though, and love it.. Using it for long trips is great.. So now with those barebacks I installed, the windsheild, bags and sissybar all come off in a minute or two when I get to the destination to cruise around stripped down and clean.

Windshields.....I never knew what I was missing until I picked up my Heritage, now I rarely ride without it. Top of mine is at eye level and I have no problems.

I have a 2001 FLSTC and I love it........My stock windshield is at eye level. ..In high traffic conditions I sit straighter than normal which allows me to see over the top for a clearer view. Normally I'm more laid back when cruising and the windsheild is above eye level allowing the windsheild to do what is was meant to do.....Stay Safe.....Mr Breeze

Same concept for me on my 2005 Heritage...

Sit up straight and I can see over it with no problems when I need to. Slouch down with my feet on the highway pegs and I ride fully behind it. Occasionally, I'll get a wild hair and spend the 5 seconds required to pop the windshield off. I call these my "windshield appreciation rides" and after a dozen or so bugs at 70 mph I put it back on...

Hum .. I see the fatboy as basically a Heritage Classic with the trimmings removed ..

.. the eye of the beholder ..

The stock windshield on my HSC was a pain in the neck - literally! The top of it was right at my eye level (5'11") and I found myself lifting my chin to see over the top of it. I changed the windshield out for the smoke low profile (about 3 inches lower) and now its fine. In the winter, and if I'm doing a lot of higher speed riding, I use the wind shield...low speed cruising and hot summer, I take it off though I hate the **** that hits me in the face when I'm not using it...

Not sure I can add anything, but I have replaced the stock with a smoked sheid (it really matches my silver and black paint really well. It's shorter than stock , a few inches below my sight and it's fine. Great for trips and keeping the "flying protein" out of my mouth!
