How many light bulbs are there? You shouldn't need more than 3 wires for hi/low beam circuits. If you don't have the instruction sheet, you might have to trace the wire one by one then.

turns out the black and brown wires power a very small bulb. and the white, green and blue do the hi/low. no matter which one is the ground, the other two work as hi/lo is this normal. id assume the green is the true ground?

I ran into the same thing I put a drag specialties lamp on a springer that was in the shop for a collision repair. Since it is a dealership, it has to be done right and look oem, even though it is aftermarket. I removed the wire harness from the old headlamp. The hole in the new headlamp was too small, so I drilled it out and installed the harness in the new lamp shell. I plugged the bulb in and all was good. No soldering, no splicing an oem look.
