Had a 2004 Heritage that did nothing but routine service on and had no problems with.. Would still have it not for the wife having to give up riding her own and then went the touring route...

I think it depends a lot on how you want to ride, your physical size and height, etc. in deciding on whether it is right. I really thought that I was going to get a Road King or a touring model. I had ridden a couple touring models like the Road Glide and Street Glide. Both are comfortable and nimble, handle well, but they felt a bit small for me - I'm just 6 ft and 190 lbs. Which is weird cuz my taller friends ride them. I went and sat on and rode a few RK's and they felt like the top of the bike was flat and I was riding "on" versus more "in" the bike if that makes sense. For an RK, I would have needed to change seats and handlebars to get the feel, plus it seemed my knees were too high.

When I got on the heritage, the seating position was perfect. The floorboard to seat distance seemed longer so my feet were forward more and knees not so high up. I can sit upright and bring my feet back or stretch out and lean back some. With the boards I never find the need to use the highway pegs. My hands are in the right place, and it has a great stock seat. Better than the mustang on my last bike. I thought I'd want a fairing down the road, but I did that with the heritage. so with quick detach I can go without, or put on a windshield, or the fairing. All same quick detach.

The ride is comfortable and smooth. I do drag my boards (and pipes on occassion) in some spirited corner carving but mostly I enjoy the ride.

WARNING: Avoid this bike like the plague!

Have you ever heard the joke:
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll disappear for hours drinking beer with his buddies.

If you buy this bike, you'll find yourself wandering aimlessly throughout the countryside for hours and hours. These things have a nose for the open road like a bloodhound on a trail. If you're accountable to someone for your whereabouts, ie: when you get home you're asked "where the h3ll have you been?", time's linear passage ceases to cooperate with the universe and you'll lose many hours. You'll find yourself talking to it....and it answers. If you thought a woman with a credit card was dangerous, you have no idea how much $$ this bike is going to cost you. You absolutely must be prepared for what you're getting yourself into.

You have been warned.

These things are dangerous.

point well made xtnctss,

I had 2 Sportsters. 883 and 1200.

Before I decided on the Heritage...
I test rode a ...Road King...Electra Glide...Street Bob...Fat Bob..Super Glide...Low Rider... and one metric that shall remain nameless because I dismissed it immediately.

When I rode the Heritage...it felt like 'home'. It fit me perfectly and I knew it was the bike for me.

If you want the "...and they lived happily everafter" ending. ..ya gotta' ride a few..sit on a few.

you'll know when it's right.

Thats too much money for an '04. I'd keep looking or try to get them down a few thousand. Good luck.

Classic was my first bike and would like to get another someday. Went the touring route for two up and need for storage. Glad someone else thought the price was high. $14k for an 04 with 32k miles, way over priced. Keep looking you can find way better deal.

Too much for an 04 with that kind of miles. I bought my 05 with 4,000 miles 1 1/2 years ago for 14,000. It was stock and spotless. Not stock any more. What a great bike!
We have a wholesaler in Gresham Oregon that sells low mileage bikes really cheap.

When I tested the Heritage it felt so right, i did not like the Road king as said here it was like I was on it and not in it. The tour bikes sat me stiff and square.

14k is a little much, especially with 32k, find one with less miles and less cost.

Graet bike!
