i have a 08 FLSTC and did some mods, cut the rear fender and insatlled leds, they work great with the stock front signals. i went and changed the front to lower profile but still conventional bulbs and now the flasher blinks correctly for about 3 sweeps then go faster making the security light come on. i do not have a security system so ?????? if i reinstall the original turn signals it work ok. i rang out the syatem and the original have less resistance ; any ideas???????????
The lower resistance of a LED makes them look like a short circuit to the flasher. So they blink a lot faster.
Unlike cars the TSM or TSSM (Turn Signal, Turn Signal/Security Module) in our bikes also has tilt and security circuits built into it. So you can't replace it with an electronic version and have to use a load resistor.
Check with any of the major lighting accessory makers Kuryakyn, Badlands, Biketronics, etc.
All of them have equilizer resistor setups, some are even fitted with the correct plugs so its a simple matter of plugging them into the existing circuit.
