frame vin number

I have a reconditioned FXR and the frame VIN is 96CGSR500514STFXR
I am trying to get a new tank but want to make sure it is compatible with the frame.

It must be an aftermarket frame but nothing comes up on carfax

When i run that number on the free sites, it comes back "Invalid Check Digit". Receck the number and repost.

I'm pretty sure you can't run the vin numbers on motorcycles. I tried doing that when I bought mine with no sucsess.

I rechecked the vin before i posted this thread. I know Harleys start with 1HD. I think it must be aftermarket. The last three letters are FXR and I do not think HD runs their vins like that. I am stabbing in the dark so all help is appreciated.
