I mounted the fairing a couple of weeks ago, with the 9" windshield, and after putting a few hundred miles on the bike decided to keep it on. I wanted it to look custom rather than like I was trying to emulate an Ultra, so I had it striped rather than painted.
The primary stripe matches the off-red/orange stripe on the bike between the red and black; the secondary stripes pick up the silver and gray from the HD logo on the tank (it's an '06 FLSTCI with just under 30K miles).
If you don't like pinstriping, you won't care for it, but it came out exactly how I wanted it to.
