You might be gripping the handlebars too tightly. Try a looser grip. I know that these machines are a "handful" in terms of speed, but you don't have to maintain a deathgrip on the bars.
Could be as simple as holding on to tight, right on up to needing different positioning on the bike.
I'd start with just trying to relax your grip. Then try the add on palm rests or whatever they are. After that I'd look at changing bars. Something that puts your wrists in a different position.

You might want to look in to Kuri ISO grips with a throttle boss (that's what the "little piece of plastic" is).
