Default Speedometer went dead

I have a 2006 FXSTS and the speedometer went dead including the odometer and light. I checked the fuses and connectors and they are OK. I also pulled the plug on the back of the speedo and checked for power. The plug has a constant hot and an ignition hot that ar both OK. I think the speedo is bad but want to see if anyone has any suggestions prior to ordering an new one.

same thing happened to me today. 2002 FLHPI, I also lost the auto-cancel on the directionals, everything else seems fine. I wonder what the connection might be?

if you lost the auto cancel on the turn lamps it is a loss of data to the system. it is routed through a system relay and a fuse to control the system replay. this info was for 07. you need to get a manual and it will save you time and money.

I just had the same thing happen to my 06 FXSTSI. I am having it repaired right now. It is the ignition switch itself.

There is a speed sensor on the top right off the transmisson and they are known to take a crap. Remove it and check for metal filing on it, clean them off and try it. Sometimes this will work and if it doesn't just replace it, $ 50.00 at the dealer. It is held in place by an allen head screw.

well solved the probem thanks to 20NightTrain03 and 05 Deluxe. There was a ground wire rubbing on the front left corner of the battery. One strand was holding. Fixed the wire and all is good.
