hello fellow riders,
I am new to the quick release windshield game as i just purchased a 09 heritage classic.when my dealer showed me removal and installing, when he reinstalled there was a definite click when it snapped into place.this weekend i removed it for a ride and went to put it back on careful to line up on the grommets and snap into place.i heard no "click" when it went back on and it seems that if i pull on it from the front,it comes off what i think is to easy.it seems very basic and easy but im just wondering,is there a trick to the click or is it safly on.Id hate to get going down the road and a cross or tail wind knocks it off when im riding.Any ideas?
Don't know what sort of setup you have but assuming it's the same as our Heritage and Deluxe: There's a metal spring clip that snaps over a stud on each side. That's probably the click you hear. When the windshield is back as far as it's supposed to be, those retaining clips will be over the studs.
Edit: The Deluxe has studs but on the Heritage the retaining clip just goes over the top of the shield frame.

Sounds like it is ok. Mine also will pull off fairly easy, just the design of them. To be safe and for peace of mind, take a trip to the dealer and ask them again. Nothing worse than being focused and thinking about something other than the road.
Consider yourself lucky. My windshield is almost impossible to get on and off, and it lines up perfectly. It's like the grommets are too big for the mounting slots.
Mine do not always click either, but as long as the spring latch is hooked to the windshield frame it is OK. Still, I pull back on the top to just to make sure.
There isn't a positive security clasp like a door closing. I suppose it's possiible that the windshield could come off on it's own, but you'd have to be moving backwards at highway speeds for it to have a chance of doing that.
You can always manipulate the wire spring downwards (with the shield off the bike) so that when installing it holds tighter against the grommet.
As long as the brackets are all the way into the rubber bushings your OK.
If you have a National Cycle Switch Blade set up it does make a click when it is properly installed. If you have the new Memphis Shades set up it has "trigger locks" that click into place when it is installed.
