Default Handlebars/Switch Housings

So last night i went to the Harley shop and looked at some bars for my 92 softail. I have decided to go with the 14" Z bars. When i asked about getting new grips the guy pointed me in the direction of only ones that glue on. Now I asked if i bought new switch housings which i was going to do anyway if i could get the grips that lock into the housings. He said that he doesn't think i can do that due to wiring and things of that nature. He then continued to show me Ness grips and bars that were going to run me upwards to 300 bucks before wires and everything else. So my question for all you guys is do you think i can use newer switch housings (96 - up, apparently thats when they changed the grips) or do you think i will have to stick to the glue on grips???

It will come down to wiring from the housing. Grips and housings will fit fine but you would need to marry up the wires in the terminal connections under the tank to make it work. I don't know what the wireing diagram looks like but I would think it would be doable.

So i have been still looking for my bars for my custom. The bars that i have seen run from 40.00 to 250.00. My problem now is the decision between 1 inch bars and 1 1/4 bars. Couple of questions with that. Can you internally run the wires with a 1 inch bar? Will i need to get different risers if i go with the 1 1/4?

Yes you can run the wires internally it may be more difficult and yes you do need risers for that size bar.

I haven't been able to find pre-drilled one inch bars really to many places. The only reason i am leaning towards 1 in bars is because i really don't want to drop the money to buy new risers and the bars and all the extra stuff that i am going have to buy (especially with a new baby on the way). I am guessing i am going to have to drill myself which is not a big deal but i wanted to see if anyone else has done their own drilling. Thanks guys.

Try Flanders. They got lots of 1" bars and the option to buy them predrilled or dimpled.
