I'd like to better understand reading tread depth on these stock 240mm Dunlop 407 tires.
I have been to 2 dealers and they say replace it (of course). But the idea of removing this tire before I really need to is the question. The front tire is only 90mm and is wearing out like I'm used to - consistantly across the whole tire.
The pics show the tire with 8067 miles on it. Notice the dead center has little tread but just an inch to either side has plenty of tread so I am thinking there has to be that much rubber still remaining in the center. The wear bar makers are not showing yet but I am told they are in the center.
Wow, 8k+ on original rear tire is very impressive. It looks to me like you have some life left in that tire. After the HD emblem wears down there is a raised tread wear indicator left. When the tread wear indicator is flush with the lug surface you need to consider a replacement.
I only got 5k out of mine....maybe because of this...
