Default Danny Gray = poor quality control

I recently purchased a Danny Gray seat for my Rocker and it was the biggest mistake that I have made.
The brackets on the seat are way off, after alot of bending and adjusting they were still off. I tried to install the seat and the Danny gray bolt got cross threaded in the Rocker frame then the bolt head became stripped. I tried to remove the bolt with a vise grip and it broke off in the frame.

I tried screw extractors and left handed drill bits and nothing would get the bolt out. I had to completely drill the bolt remains out and it lead to a big hole in the frame. I tried to install a heli coil and it would not work.

This really sucks because with the new hole my frame caps dont fit back on correctly. I am very dissatisfied with the fitment of the Danny Gray and everything it lead up to. It has gotten to the point that I dont want my Rocker anymore.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Heard a lot of good things about Danny Gray but if you don't find a solution you can accept (without selling your amazing bike) you could also have a look at Bitchin Seat. I was looking at Danny Gray vs Bitchin Seat & ended up buying the Bitchin seat. If you are referring to the frame caps below your seat you could have a look at my seat where you can see that when fitted it hides the holes in the frame.

The hole in the left side of my frame is destroyed, I spent over $150 in thread tappers, left sided bits, screw extractors and heli-coil kits. Nothing worked, I refuse to spend more money.

I known how you feel buddy, I had bought DG seat from Dennis Kirk about 2 months ago and had the same problem with the fitment. I sat on it to see if it's that great before I actual work with the damn brackets, fortunately I didn't like the way it felt so I decided to return the seat without playing with the brackets. Anyway, what I did is that I found a guy who worked on my stock rocker seat and re-skinned it with alligator skin. Personally, I think DG seat is not that comfortable anyway and again it's only my two cents. If you ride solo, who care if the hole is f-cked up, you can alway cover it up with the frame cap using 3M tape or something lke that. Good luck buddy.

That sux but I'm not sure what is so bad that you now want to sell one of if not the best lookin Rockers I've seen.. I can understand frustration and I can see a QC issue with a DG seat (my seat pan was tweaked from day 1) BUT what I can't understand is why you would not stop what you were doing before you got to the point of snappin the bolt and the ensuing headaches.. I'm not trying to be a dick by any means but the end result is on you not DG bro.. Rule #1 of fittin new parts.. Everything is loosely bolted up and threaded properly before anything is torqued down..

PS.. I've never seen a hole that wouldn't accept a helicoil.. Especially with a little 20/20 metal set to help it out..

I really hope you can get things figured out and keep the bike.. It really is awesome and you've done a great job with it..

I started with the left side first and the bolt went in smoothly (I did not even fully tighten it) when I tried to remove the bolt because the right side would not line up it felt really tight and the hex head stripped. I then used vise grips slowly to remove it and it snapped which lead to my oil tank being scratched.
I then used a center punch to mark the middle of the bolt and tried to remove the left over bolt using a left handed drill bit and it did not work then I used a few different screw extractors. I again tried with a larger left handed drill bit that shattered. I have been working on the bike on and off since wednesday. I used the tap for the heli-coil with tapping fluid and used 3 heli coil inserts so far and when the new bolt is installed the helicoil will either bind up inside the hole or when the bolt is tightened up the helicoil slides out with the bolt. I have been working on cars and metric bikes for years and I have 3 other projects that I am currently working on aside from the Rocker, I have used Heli-coils in the past. I don't understand why it's not working on the Rockers frame, I used the recommended drill bit size to drill out the hole.

The quality of the Danny Gray seat sucks, the brackets were way off and after redrilling the mounting tabs now the seat lines up and would fit if I had the threads to install the bolt. The glue that holds on the felt material on the bottom of the seat is coming off, the seat is an actual production model that can be purchased from the Drag Specialties catalog part #0802-0515 it uses the same seat pan as the custom seats, I confirmed this with Sherry from Danny Gray.

I've been looking to get a new seat for my Heritage and really had my mind made up on a Danny Gray. No way I'll buy it now after reading about this. Thanks for the heads up man. I make it a point not to do business with companies that screw their customers.

Can feel your frustration. But that last sentence? Just sounds bad.

I had a Danny Gray seat and did not like the way it rubbed the fender when I would hit a bump. When I got my paint job I did not want it hitting my new paint. I sold it on ebay and got a Jeffrey Phipps seat. http://www.jeffreyphipps.com/
