I installed the new tri-bar led tail light on my Softail Custom. It was slightly more difficult than what I had read on the forums. However, it was still real easy! The difficulty came when I realized that the brass inserts in the old tail light housing were spinning when I was trying to remove the 4 bolts holding it to the fender bracket. This mean't that I had to remove my bags and fender struts in order to remove the entire assembly. Once removed, I put the old bracket and housing in my vise and put some penetrating oil on the 4 bolts holding the housing to the bracket. I was able to barely grip the brass inserts with a small channel locks then break the bolts free. I assembled the new tail light housing to the brackets then re-installed the whole assembly back into the fender. The whole process took just under 2 hours. The results were excellent!!
yeah man that was my first mod, and an excellent one at that. lookin good.
I will say I didnt seem to have the trouble you did. Maybe thats the difference between the custom and train. mine MAYBE took 15 mins. it was like 2 or 4 bolts, dont remember exactly.

Hard not to like it, probably why I got one for my bike way back when.
BTW there is a chrome cover for it if your interested, its not cataloged yet that I know of, but I found out about it after seeing one on a new CVO Fatbob.
The Fatbob's tailight has a different part number because it fits a wider (240mm tire) fender. But the tailights lens contour and cover screws (the two screws in the lower corners) are identical.
If you want the part number try using the search function of the forum you should be able to find a thread I started about it a while back. But I dropped the idea of getting one for my bike when I found out the silly thing costs over a $100.
Light looks great. I just ordered mine from Zanotti's but it's back ordered a few days...seeing how great it looks on your bike though helps to make it worth the wait.
I put one on my 06 Standard. The only problem I recall having is getting the signal wires unplugged. I didnt know that there was a release button to press in to get them off. Almost demolished one before I figured it out. It would of saved a lot of cussing if I would of took 5 minutes to look it up in my service manual.
