Beneficial or necessary? I've never used it before and haven't experienced any leaks. The o-ring design seems to be enough for the application. Is this just insurance?
Loctite is a brand name. It is also generic for thread locker, which was their original product, but the company now makes lubricants, anti seize, glue, and other products all with the Loctite brand name. It's a little confusing. I think Permatex is also one of their products now.
I had never heard of white loctite either until recently. Blue and red...yes...but not white.
The description above is correct. It's an antiseize lubricant with teflon. I ask because I recall seeing a white substance on the thread of the drain plugs when I did the 1000 mile change. I figured then it was some type of sealant.
I think I'll pick a tube up and start applying it for future changes. I figure it's cheap insurance.
new o rings, torque to specs, good to go. Anti-seize is pointless on fluid bolts but if you want to put some liquid teflon that would be fine, just not necessary imo.
