I am not putting this out to bad mouth Vance & Hines because I think they have been decent pipes but was wondering if everybody else is experiencing the same problem. My V/H staggered pipes started turning yellow/brown I assume from the heat around 20,000 miles on them. My buddies V/H pipes on his wideglide and brothers V/H pipes on his Night Train did the same thing around the same mileage. Is there a cleaner for this or anything that will help restore the chrome look. I recently bought a new lower muffler area pipe due to it looking so yellow but for the price I paid for the pipes top begin with I think its ridiculous. I looked at and have talked with many other guys with different pipes who have not had any problems. Just figured I'd check and see if anybody knows of a cleaner before I start looking for different pipes. The picture shows the upper pipe after I rubbed it out with chrome polish and the lower with the new muffler on it. BIG DIFFERENCE still in looks!

I'm surprised...I ran the ShortShot Staggereds on my Night Train for 23,000 miles before getting the Rocker C and I didn't have this problem. Of course those pipes are completely covered with heat shields and they looked perfect. As far as the actual pipe, that I don't know. Do you have heat shields on yours? Maybe you can get heat shields for them if you don't have them already.
Yes heat... You talking about the pipes themselves or the heat shields? Lean running bikes will turn pipes quickly. Thinner gauge pipes turn really fast. Heavy gauge takes longer. Really lean will make purple. Don't have those pipes but if the heat shields are touching the motor, they will turn. Keep the heat shield off the motor. As far as mufflers, heat... I have found that most polishes will dull the chrome somewhat but I guess it looks better than colors to most. Test in an inconspicuous area and see if you can live with the dullness. Many products out there. I used that blue away stuff and I've used regular Mother's metal polish. Both worked. Mother's took more elbow grease but scratched/dulled the chrome much less.

I had V & H Longshots HS on my Fat Boy and they looked gorgeous when I sold it. But I think I only had 15K on them so maybe it was about to happen and I wasn't aware of it.
My Rinehart exhaust heat shields and muffler has allways been a little yellow compared to the rest of the chrome on the bike. Called Bub's and the customer service was very bad and told me that's how they are! I guesse they use a yellow tint in the chromming process or something. But now the muffler is getting more of a brown tint to it. I don't see this on others.
The front half of the pipes have chrome heat shields which look great but the rear half is a solid chromed pipe with the removable baffles inside. I will have to talk with my dealer and see what they know but I half expect the answer will be, "yep, they do that."
Thanks for the replies though.
Blue job it. Your pipes will change colors if the bike is running lean. Excessive heat will do it. My pipes full coverage heat shields so there is no chance of this happening.
