Noticed that I get a little squeak in the rear brake once in a while. Yesterday when I got home I checked the front brake disc and it was warm to the touch. The rear disc was HOT. Is this normal? Thanks for the info.
Funny you mention it, I just started getting a little squeek out of the rear break. Never had it before. I'm just approaching 8900 miles. How long do pads usually last??
Rode the bike to work this AM and checked the disc and it was just warm to the touch. When I checked it Sat., I had just got done riding 85 miles. I am probably guilty of not using the front brake enough. Am going to try and change my braking which should help a little. My bike was new last year and only has 4600 miles on it.
My brake pads only last about 10k, the rear does squeek, not sure how to stop it I tried the stuff that you paint on the backside of the pad, it only works a couple thousand miles. I think the temp issue is normal, I hate to think the squeek is normal, I have noticed the hotter it is outside the worse it is.

As another guy said "yes" this is normal. Also, I'd recommend against touching the disks after you're done riding, hot doesn't begin to describe what they can be. Ever watch a NASCAR cup race at Martinsville? Disk rotors glow bright orange-red. Accidently touched a disk on my truck once and burnt the skin off my finger - hurt like a goner clamp. A little squeaking isn't unusual either and certainly doesn't mean your pads are worn or wearing out prematurely.
I tried coating the back of the pads with anti-seeze, and it made the squeeling less, but not for long. Now 2 weeks later I have normal squeeling again. Luckily I only use my rear brakes minimally.
Check out these guys, everyone who's tried them think the factory did us a diservice not putting these on the bikes going out the door. Sone as I can get some extra money together I'm getting their pads and two piece stainless steel rotors.
