So I found a deal on a bike in So Cal but I live in Colorado. Is there anything I might need to be aware of? Not sure if they have to have different pipes than the rest of us or other such emissions junk or not. I have asked for as many pics as he is willing to take and also asked him if he would be willing to take it to his local HD for a pre-purchase inspection, have not heard back yet but it has only been an hour or so. Any other tid bits of advice would be most welcome. Should anybody be currious, it is an '07 FXSTC w/1,400 miles, V&H Big Radius pipes, new pegs and grips but stock everything else for $11,000.
Cali bikes have a charcoal canister on them for emissions and a special sticker on the frame saying it's a California legal bike. You won't even know it's there, it's tiny. In fact, you may as well leave the canister on the bike so that in the future, if you want to sell it to someone in Cali, you can. That's the only difference.
Where exactly? Post up here or on the Pacific forum and you may get one of us to check it out in person for you.
As of right now all I know is that it is in LA. If I could get some local help that would be awesome. Once I have more info I will post in the Pacific forum, thanks for the tip.
Just a thought you might want to ask him for the VIN and call the LAPD office or the LA County Sheriffs Office and make sure it isn't stolen. Before I'd drive that far I'd make sure everything was on the up and up. I have a friend who was an LAPD Officer (now retired) and he delt with a lot of stolen bikes. Just my .02

Well, it looks like I will be going to IA to look at, and probably buy, a 07 FXDWG. The guy in Cali took a bit longer to respond and did not answer either way if he was willing to take the bike to an HD dealer or not. Sent the pics I wanted, told me about his lost job but did not answer the other question. Good suggestion about calling the LAPD though, I think I will call the IA state patrol in addition to the local HD dealer doing their pre-purchase inspection which should include a vin check. Thanks again though for all the assistance.
