I'm not sure which is the "safer" method.

For more contrast I disconnected the running light portion of the tail light so the tail light works only as a brake light. These LED's are so BRIGHT and INTENSE that they provide more than enough running light, both during the day and night. Then when braking, the two led's get brighter AND the tail light goes on. Lots of contrast because the tail light is completely off, then goes on when braking along with the led's getting brighter. Last Saturday I went on a ride with 20 other bikes and several of them asked me what LED's I had. One of the guys had the Kury Panacea and could not believe how intense these were.

Another advantage of LED's is that they blink, turn on and off, very fast and clean so when applying brakes or turn signals it is an instant on, off, on, off... not a dim to brighter light like standard bulbs. This also makes for more contrast and makes your signaling more visible. LED's and the RTB module work extremely well with the right setup. No doubt this was money well spent.

i have the HD kit for the rear run turn lamps and then added rearalert from ebay to the mix and now the 3 lights flash when you first brake. I also built a custom tail lamp
