Default FXST Rear Wheel Options

I have an 04 FXST and plan on changing out my rear tire and wheel as soon as I get home in the spring (I leave for 7 months in a few weeks).

I just bought a front end (whole chrome front end) with an 08 Softail Custom Profile front wheel with chrome hub/polished stainless spokes up front that I plan on putting on before I leave.

As soon as I get back, during my leave, I hope to wear out/need to replace my rear tire and want to get rid of my spoked rear wheel at that time. I want a solid chrome wheel and would prefer look of the newer forged solid wheel. I definately want to go with atleast a 17", maybe even an 18". I plan to run Metzler ME880s most likely.

My questions are:
I know a 17x?? Deuce wheel will fit with no problems and I can run a 160/70-17 back there. Very simple. But how about squeezing a 170/60-17 in there?

Can I run an 18x5.5 V-ROD rear wheel back there with a 160/60-18 on it?

I know a lot of people have used a portapower and spread their frame rails another quarter inch or so. I am not opposed to doing that if needed. I really like the look and width of my stock fender, but I want to absolutly fill it with tire width wise to the max. What I really want a Deuce wheel without those stupid little ridges all the way around it.

Ok. So my decision is made. This past weekend I bought a Deuce wheel with the fins machined off smooth and chromed with a Harley Dunlop D591 tire installed.

I had already bought a lightningstar sprocket and rotor. In the accessories catalog it lists spacer kits needed to install both the rotor and sprocket. These dont seem to be necessary for standard rotor and sprockets. Do I actually need them for my fancy stuff?

Thanks.
