Default Question On New PowerCommander

Couple of questions. I recently had a local Stealer do the Stage 1 install on my 08 NT. They did the screaming eagle AC with the PCII. I'm not well educated on the PCII but heard from others it was the way to go (I'm sure that would be up for debate, but that's not where i'm going).

1) Anyway, I took off the seat and noticed a USB cable. I know it's a dumb question, but can someone explain what this is used for. I"m guessing it's to tune the fuel management. Just a little insight would be great.

2) Sometimes while starting my bike, it seems to struggle to crank at first. I have never had a problem getting it started, it just struggles to turn over every now and again. Could this be related to the install of Stage 1? Possible have fouled up plugs? I know these are kinda vauge questions, but any help/opinions would be appreciated THanks

Default powercommander

I can be wrong but why did they put a PCII in it.
This sounds like an old system, I just bought the brandnew PCV and as far as i know this one replaced the PCIII.
Besides a little bit of trying with the settings and finding the proper map i am very happy with it on my Dyna 09

Usb cable is used to link the power commander with a computer so you or the technician can see what it is doing. The power commander comes with a cd that you install on a computer that allows you to make changes to your system. Also, with the power commander and usb hooked up to the bike, you do not need an outside source of power to look at the results or maps on the unit.

*The usb cable does not hook up to the bike - it is only used on an external computer*

This only works with a PC-V. The PC III needs to have a 9volt battery pack or the bike to power it up.

Default Pc iii usb

I have a Power Commander III USB that I installed on my 07 Night Train. My OEM ecm on the bike was stock with no Stage 1 updates or mods.
Where the PC III installs (behind the rear fender splash shield) there is no easy access to be able to (tune) re-tune it in the future, so I plugged the USB cable into it with some dielectric grease and coiled it under the seat for future tuning. If the Bike is turned on, the PC III will power up with no 9 volt source needed. I can plug my USB cable into my laptop and turn on the main switch or start the bike and it displays the current map on the screen. Any changes to the map can be made at this point.
The screen also displays RPM, throttle position, added or deleted fuel % , and duty cycle.

A DISC comes with the Power Commander III USB to load the PC III program into you computer.(you should have gotten one with the PC III). A laptop works best so you can take it to the bike and tune or download new maps that can be obtained from DynoJet.com on line with their tested maps. Dyno tuning is the best way to come up with the best application (map) for any mods done to the bike.

My PC III has worked fine to this point on my 07 Train. Sometimes when people start their bike they wait till the fuel pump pressurizes the fuel rail and shuts off before they hit the start button. This may turn off the power to the power commander momentarily till the pump comes back on during cranking. This may explain why the bike takes longer to start up.
As I was told, when you get into your car and turn on the key to start it, do you wait for the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel rail or do you just put the key in and turn it? I think "turn it" is what most will answer. No one waits a few seconds with the key in the ON position.
If that is the case, start your bike the same way.
As I have stated I have had no problems with mine.

On another note, I did have a problem with a leaking fuel hose inside the tank that caused the bike to start harder. I have since had the hose replaced and it starts right up as usual again.
If the hose inside the tank is leaking, you will hear a HISSING in the tank when you first turn on the main switch. GET IT FIXED and don't get stranded.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help guys. When the dealer installed the PC, I did not receive a CD (or a manual or any kind of paperwork for that matter). Should I have been given this?

Default cd for PC III

IMO you should have received the cd from the dealer. They probably kept it so you need to go back for any changes and they can charge you for them. It comes in the box along with the 9 volt power up adapter. ( I have not used my adapter yet.).
You could contact Dynojet.com and ask them to send one to you. You can print a operation manual from the cd like I did.
Contact Dynojet.com They are very helpful. I got mine through Fuelmoto and they have been very helpful to me.
