I just bought the V&H Bigshots Staggered for my 2001 Softail Springer.
What are the best / quietest baffles that will work with these pipes? Do the V&H quiet baffles make a huge difference?
Although they sound awsome, I need to tone them down a lot or I'm in for many a ticket since in Montreal we're not even supposed to have baffled pipes.
I've got the QB's in my Sporty. It brought the db's down maybe 3-4???? But it makes the tone of the pipes a nicer rumble without the tinny sound. I'm MUCH happier with the QB's in the pipes. Can't help you on any other brand. I'm a V&H guy.
Supertrapps are some of the quietest pipes at idle or low RPM. They don't restrict flow but disperse and radiate the exhaust sound in all directions. They also are some of the best for increasing torque.
I think the V&H BS's come down 6 Db's with the QB's, Still 92 or 93. Stock is 82. if not right on those No. are close.
Used to have that site saved on the test till my Hard drive puked last week end.
I have bought, not yet received, the short staggered from V and H, along with the QB... I (and not only me...)am also concerned of the noise here. I didn't know you can adapt baffles other than V and H. If some of the guys know what is the miracle to make those pipes a little less loud, I am also very interested to know...
Thank you for the advice. I'm going to check what's available locally and if they don't have any in stock, I'll decide on either the V&H QB or the Supertrapps.
Having some experience with Longshots and no QB's on my old Fatboy (was too loud for me) and having friends with Bigshots with QB's on their Heritage Softails (still a bit loud for me) and just purchasing a leftover '09 Heritage myself, I went on a quest for a quieter exhaust system.
I have yet to take delivery, but after talking to Vance and Hines, I ordered a set of Q Series Double Barrel Longs. CS claims that they are 10db quieter than the Bigshots with the quiet baffle, and the baffle is mechanical and not removeable...and nothing to wear out. I like the look and they clear the bags. I have to wait 2 weeks for delivery, so can't report yet, but if the V&H guy is on the money, I'll be happy. Maybe I'm getting old, but the noisy exhaust note just wears one down after awhile.
I see some posters are having success with Big City Thunder QQ Monster Baffles in quieting their exhausts.
Installed quiet baffles and they are a little quieter and do have a nicer, deeper note than the stock baffle. But, they were restrictive above 4k rpm's on my bike so I removed them. Not sure if they will be quiet enough for what you need them for. Lowers 2-3 db - not much, but just the deeper sound makes it seem like more.
The pipes MrWonderful mentioned are a lot quieter and HD also used to sell them.

I have the Q Series Double Barrel Longs on my Deluxe and I can verify that they are definetly quieter than the Straightshot SO that I have on my Sportster. They have a great Harley sound and don't set off the car alarms in parking lots (like my Sportster does). I'd highly recommend them.
