bobtail fender rack question
another dumb question. I have a Softail Standard 2001 with a rear fender luggage rack that states 10lb limit. As I have read in this thread it looks like there is an adapter I can purchase to strengthen the rack to take say 20lb max. Looks like you have it already. I am in the UK but if there is a US co that makes them I would like to buy one (and then follow your instructions to fit!)
cheers
The narrower fender precludes the use of the Tri-Bar and if you can't use it, you can't put the heavier adapter plate on.
There is however no reason you can't make your own. Its going to take a little bit of fabrication, but its not impossible.
You might check out the DIY section Mud started in the Dyna area. He made his own taillight for a custom bobtail fender on his bike, with a little different measurements I'm sure it could be adapted to fit a Softail. Then you would have a neat new custom taillight and something metal to mount the rack on.
There are a couple of us working on a winter project to make a custom LED taillight with integrated turn signals for the post 06's, but if we can get it working it wouldn't take much to adapt it to older bikes.
