Exhaust Question, (I think)
I'm riding a 94 FXSTC, it runs strong when you are accelerating and sounds good. At slower speeds like riding in traffic in 2nd or 3rd the pipes sort of break up and pop (or bark) a little, when you are not accelerating or decelerating. The engine does not seem to be missing but the sound makes it seem so. Plugs are good, carb is clean, fuel economy is good, no smoke, it really runs well. It has Python staggered slashcut pipes with some sort of bafffles in them-(I just picked up the bike).
I'm thinking there is not enough back preasure in the pipes but I am new to this. Or maybe the slow speed sircuit in the carb? I know it's hard but anyone have any ideas or is there a way to test it without buying a bunch of baffles to try out.

I'm still at it but learning alot. The pipes are 1 7/8s ID so my choice of different baffles is rather limited. I did mess around with cheap Custome Chrome ones(cut/weld/drill & etc), and got it running smooth in all ranges but it also ran like a showroom bike..(slooow/quiet)-too constricted. I've had the carb off and totally cleaned it, increased the slow speed jet and it ran better but too rich, I've tried 3 jets 45,46,48 and can change them in 15 min by just dropping the bowl. I'm currently running the 45 with the original baffles (HD Chrome Werks) and I added a 3/4 washer (popsicle) to them. The power is good, no flat spots or black smoke, mileage seems good but I still get a pop/crackle on slow speed decel sometimes. Next step is to take a pipe cutter and lop off the slash cut from the pipes. After that you will see yet another thread on "Help me pick out my new Pipes"....LOL
BTW: I made a nifty tool for removing stuck baffles, 3'long/3/8s stainless rod with a slight hook on one end and a "U" on the other. Hook it on the baffle, back is better, take an air chisel with out the chisel and put the "U" end in it. Run the chisel slow and it will work them right out with no damage. No more yanking or banging stuff with a hammer...
