I think it took me about 45 mins. My problem were a couple of the bolts on the inside of the fender not coming loose because the internal nut was turning with it. Eventually they just came loose.

^^^

The internal nuts were the issue for me as well. Didn't help that my rear is lowered just enough to make it a complete pain in the a**.

Here's another option...saw this at MB Bike Week...a guy wanted the Tri-bar but he had an older model so he basically made him own...took a taillight that filled up bobtail fender nicely and taped off lines and sprayed VHT or similar stuff to tint taillight to give it the blackout look....thought it turned out nicely.....thinking about doing it myself for my '99 and would use this taillight http://www.jpcycles.com/Search/Produ...results=50&No=

I ended up using a Joker Machine part and powdercoating it black. Nice piece.

I'm working with an LED company right now on a turn signal LED that would fill the gap between the Tri-bar and the fender.

I'll keep you guys posted and post up the results if it works out.

How about putting up a couple of pics?
I would like to see how it looks with the lights on and off.

What gap? Mine doesn't have enough room to fit a thin book of matches in between the lens and the fender.
You sure your not referring to the stock tail light lens. There's lots of room between that and the fender and its one of the primary reasons I got rid of the ugly thing.

you might try looking on places like ebay. thats where i got mine for just over $100 dollars. the guy was selling his bike and putting all the stock parts back on. the light was used but in perfect shape and and alot cheaper than getting it at the dealer.

$170 to install the light? for real? wow..they must take the whole fender off or something. Took me about 25 min, i didnt have my jack so I was laying on the ground while the bike was on the jiffy trying to reach up there with my ratchet/wrench, that was the only pain. Other than that, it was a great mod that I got from a member on here very cheap since he modified his bike and had no use for it anymore.

I love the look and functionality of it is a lot more attention grabbing than the stock. I have a brand new Walters Workshop Smoked Laydown Lens, with the LED Cluster bulb that I was going to use until I got this one the next day!

I had a Walter's lens on the bike already, and started to melt on the sides, so they sent me a new one and I bought the LED bulb to get more light out (because I was too cheap to pay the $239 for the Tri-bar). Now just gotta sell my brand new stuff to re-coup some money!.
