I found a 2001 Deuce with 25k miles, vivid black, corbin gun fighter seat, supertrapp exhaust, cast spoke HD wheels and brand new tires. Bike is in good shape. He says I can have it for 8500, but im trying to get him down to 8000, is this a good deal and would you recommend this as a starter bike? For all you guys 6'1 or 6'2 how do you feel on this bike and is there any complaints about this bike?
I'm 6'2" and the stock set-up riding position was OK. I just wanted a different riding position so I installed the 3' extension kit on my front foot controls. The kit was about $150. Get The Deuce......you'll love that bike.
Assuming it has had regular maintenance and from everything else you have told us it sounds like a good deal even at 8500. Mileage is not bad. I have an 06 Springer with almost 19K on it. The Corbin seat could be a bonus or a literal PITA. It depends on your preference and if the seat is a stock model or one that was custom fit to the previous owner at the Corbin factory in Hollister.
Pretty much any bike can be a good starter bike. As a general rule of thumb, the larger the bike and engine, the steeper the initial learning curve and the longer it may take to gain your internal confidence. When you start on a larger displacement motorcycle you have a lot more power between your legs so recovery from mistakes can be much less forgiving. A smaller metric cruiser starter bike allows you to muscle things around until you master and become more comfortable with your technique. But with your size you may find a smaller bike cramped. The Deuce might work for you right out of the gate.
I own an 07 Deuce and no complaints at all. Hope that helps.
