No I understand about altitude and carburetion but he said mountains and didn't specify any elevation. There are mountains below sea level. Does not necessarily mean it's high enough to make a difference. May only be noticing the lean decel pops because of the long downhill decents. Pops in the exhaust are usually caused by a leak in the exhaust or a lean condition. Using the context clues in his post... stock bike, slips ons, never jetted. The bike is lean...

Thanks to all for the opinions and I will try some of your suggestions. THe only thing I done to the carb was went from a 45mm to 48mm on the slow jet. The stealership suggested this to stop the "carb farting" and it did. I found a local shop yesterday to rejet for around 60 bucks so I will give that a try too.

Thanks again to all for the advice.

that is good to find a shop if they know what they are doing. rejecting is something you will want to do your self and save the money. i did that on my sportster. i went thru about 4 jets until i found the right combination. If i was going to do over i would have make the stage 1 mods and paid for a dyno tune. as it turned out the first kit i bought from the link here was the correct kit, it just took hours of study to get it tuned right.

What a link!! I will try myself with these kind of detailed instructions on the site. After reading, it seems I should go ahead with the stage one while I am in there. Thanks for the links.
tk353,
When you say 4 jets, you mean between the pilot and main jet combos?

i bought 4 jets because of size and quality. some were made bad and had rough edges. the kit i bought from the first like had the right parts and good quality.
yes that too. i found out you select the main jet first, then the slow and then play with the meter rod and shims and rod size
